Patients with cystic fibrosis have abnormal mucus production and mucociliary transport, resulting in recurrent respiratory infections. Because airway submucosal glands represent a major source of mucus, they could play a significant role in cystic fibrosis lung disease. Participants in this symposium will learn about recent discoveries of airway submucosal gland physiology that are directly relevant to cystic fibrosis research and patient care.
