Dr Gianfranco Alicandro is a researcher in medical statistics and epidemiology at the University of Milan, with a background in nutrition and dietetics and a 15-year experience in the analysis of biomedical data. Dr Alicandro started his research training in 2008, in one of the largest CF center in Italy, where he was introduced to clinical research. He developed a special interest in methodology of clinical studies and medical statistics. During this period, he coordinated several clinical studies in cystic fibrosis, including observational studies and clinical trials. At the end of 2012, he moved to Rome at the National Institute of Statistics (Istat), where he has focused his interest on the study of cause-specific mortality, mortality trends and socioeconomic determinants of health. At the Istat, he had a major role in the development of one of the largest cohort (~60 million individuals interviewed during the Italian 2011 census) so far available to study socioeconomic differences in mortality, which was the topic of his PhD dissertation.
During his career, Dr Alicandro published 87 papers on peer-reviewed journals and two book chapters.
