Candela Manfredi received a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain. She is proficient with protein purification, biochemistry, and microbiological approaches toward understanding DNA repair mechanisms in bacteria. She achieved further expertise with human cellular and molecular biology techniques while researching colon cancer as a visiting postdoctoral fellow at National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Dr Manfredi came to Emory University School of Medicine in 2013 and was appointed Assistant Research Scientist in early 2018. She works in the Department of Pediatrics in cystic fibrosis (CF) research under the supervision of Dr. Eric Sorscher. Her research focuses on understanding rare mutations of CFTR, the gene that causes cystic fibrosis, and the relevance of these molecular defects in obtaining regulatory approval and patient access to CFTR modulators. Additionally, Dr. Manfredi collaborates with a team of CF researchers using high throughput screening platforms to discover and validate potential new therapies for the disease.
