Clare Smith received her BSc (hons) Physiotherapy in 1993 from Kings College London, UK. She developed a special interest in Cystic Fibrosis as a student and has practiced in cardio-respiratory care since then in the UK and Canada. She has worked extensively in CF for both paediatric and adult centres. She currently works at the University of Calgary Foothills Medical Centre, the adult Centre for CF in Southern Alberta where she provides inpatient and outpatient care. She has a special interest in research and research ethics, steming from her role assisting with research coordination for the Calgary Paediatric clinic and now as the research coordinator at the Calgary Adult CF centre for both clinical trials and investigator initiated trials. She has presented on developing the role of CF therapist in the advent of Newborn Screening at NACFC 2008 and on the development of CPT teaching aids in CF at Physiotherapy Congress, 2010, as well as the use and benefits of computerized database charting at Tri-joint Congress in 2000. She is an active member of the Canadian CF Physiotherapy group and is currently past chair of the working group which are currently developing guidelines for the evolving role of PT/RT in the new world of highly effective modulators.
