University of Vermont Medical Center
Martine Antell, PharmD has been a cystic fibrosis clinic pharmacist at the Universiry of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT for the past 5.5 years. She is originally from VT where she spent her childhood growing up on a dairy farm. She then attended college there and completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology at St. Michael's College in 2003. She received her doctor of pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2006. She was attracted to the impact pharmacists could make on patient care and safety. Her career began working for UVMMC as an inpatient clinical pharmacist with a focus on pediatrics. She moved to the Midwest in 2010 and continued to fuel her passion of pediatric pharmacy and worked at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital for 5 years. When it was time to return back to her home state, she rejoined the pharmacy team once again at UVMMC. She was approached to see if she had any interest in establishing pharmacy services in the outpatient pediatric and adult cystic fibrosis clinics in 2017. She realized this was her chance to develop the patient relationships she had been hoping to make a significant part of her job, and improve the care working with this specific patient population. Helping these patients with their home medication management, reducing inpatient admissions, and watching them grow and transition through the program has proven to be a very rewarding experience.
