Dr. Randell is a Professor of Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He received a BS from SUNY New Paltz (1979), and a Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University (1985). Dr. Randell has studied lung biology and disease his entire career and has been highly active in CF research since 1994. He teaches Respiratory Physiology and Medicine to Medical Students and in graduate level courses in Cell Biology and Physiology. His work focuses on lung epithelial stem cells, regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation, innate immunity, inflammation, and in vitro and ex vivo models. Recent studies include therapies for people with CF ineligible for modulator therapies and developing cell and gene editing therapy for CF and other lung diseases. He directs the Marsico Lung Institute/CF Center Tissue Procurement and Cell Culture Core (since 2001), a nationally and internationally recognized resource highly sought after for collaboration, contract research, and training by academics, non-profit organizations, biotech and the pharmaceutical industry.
