Phoenix Children's Hospital
Jeanette Smith, PhD is a psychologist and Program Director, CF Behavioral Medicine, working at Phoenix Children’s Hospital with the Adult CF Clinic and with the Pediatric CF Clinic. She obtained her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from West Virginia University and her Pre-Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Fellowships were completed at Boston’s Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Smith has been working with patients with CF for most of her 20 years at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. She has had the opportunity to become more involved and devote most of her time to CF since obtaining the CF Mental Health Coordinator Grant about 6-7 years ago. She implemented the Depression and Anxiety screening in the Pediatric and Adult CF Clinics. Developing and providing needed services to patients and families dealing with CF has been her passion. Providing in-clinic consultation as well as ongoing individual therapy to pediatric and adult patients has improved patient follow-through with needed mental health services. In addition to writing blogs and materials around resiliency and other relevant topics, Dr. Smith has developed and conducted Resiliency Workshops for parents and significant others, as well as workshops for the advanced parenting skills often needed given the demands of CF. She has developed Sibling Days (pre-covid). Since covid, Dr. Smith is happily now able to offer zoom groups for patients with CF. Thus far, she has conducted zoom groups for teens with CF and zoom groups for young adults. She has had requests from patients to start a Late Diagnosis group, which she hopes to add this year.
