Dr. Anne M. Bowen is retired Professor emeritus from the Psychology Dept. at the University of Arizona and the School of Nursing at the University of Wyoming. She completed her PhD in child clinical psychology at West Virginia University with a focus on Pediatric Behavioral Medicine. Her training combined a strong background in Applied Behavior Analysis and Cognitive Behavior Therapies. She has a strong foundation in Pediatric Behavioral Medicine, CBT, Behavior Therapy, Adult and Child Behavioral Medicine, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well as Behavioral Assessment and working for 3 years at Brown University, Child Psychiatric Unit. During her tenure at Brown and later in faculty positions, she has worked with children with encopresis, conducted weight gain interventions with children with CF, and worked with procedural anxiety with children with cancer. Research wise, she focused on developing HIV risk reduction intervention for drug users, rural and urban gay men. She continued her work with procedural anxiety and published her work with distraction for children receiving flu vaccines.
In terms of current clinical work, Dr. Bowen has with children and adults with CF as the mental health coordinator and psychologist for the Tucson Pediatric and Adult CF clinics. She has collaborated with the QI team to develop brief interventions for procedural anxiety and provides brief psychotherapy to adults and children. She also provides supervision at Intermountain Centers for Human Development, to outpatient staff and a number of therapists needing hours for licensure. Intermountain provides services to children and adults with Autism, substance use and general psychotherapy.
