Fabrice Jean-Pierre is a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. George O'Toole at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. He completed his graduate studies in microbiology under the direction of Dr. Eric Déziel at the INRS where he worked on characterizing the regulatory pathways utilized by the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa to grow on a surface versus a motile lifestyle. Since he joined the O'Toole group, Fabrice has been working on cystic fibrosis with the goal to understand how polymicrobial biofilm-like communities can exacerbate chronic CF lung infections. By in vitro modeling a complex community composed of various prevalent and abundant CF lung pathogens, Fabrice has leveraged this model to interrogate the molecular mechanisms by which interspecies interactions can shift antimicrobial susceptibility of microbes specifically grown in a polymicrobial environement. On the longer term, Fabrice seeks to use this novel model to identify compounds showing increased antimicrobial activity against CF pathogens specifically at the community-level and translate those in vitro findings back to the clinic.
