Children's Mercy
Candy Schmoll, BSN, RN, CPN, CCRC, obtained her Bachelor’s in Nursing degree in 1987 and began working at Children’s Mercy in Kansas City, Mo as a Pediatric ICU nurse. After about a year and a half, she traveled with her husband and worked PRN in various hospitals across the United States for the next 7 years before returning to Children’s Mercy in 1995. During her 28-year career at Children’s Mercy she has worked in the PICU and then as a research coordinator in various departments across the hospital. She obtained her certification as a clinical research coordinator in 2000. In 2009, she began doing CF clinical research and made the switch to full time CF research in 2011, becoming the lead CF coordinator for Children’s Mercy as a Therapeutic Development Network (TDN) site for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In February of 2015, she became a Research Coordinator Manager in addition to her role as CF research coordinator, and in the past year, has made the switch to full time management of research coordinators in multiple departments while continuing to serve as the lead TDN coordinator for her CF team. Candy serves on the CF Research Steering Committee and is the RC representative for the NACFC planning committee. She has served on the TDN Competitive Renewal Committee, has published an article for ACRP, co-authored a couple of research papers and has presented at both the TDN spring meeting and NACFC. Additionally, she assists in the training of researchers at Children’s Mercy, having served as a presenter in a training course entitled Research Fundamentals.
