Rush University Medical Center
Brian is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, currently working as a psychotherapist at Rush University Medical Center (RUMC)'s Center for Clinical Wellness in Chicago. Brian earned his MSW from Portland State University in 2017, and began his career at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, working as an inpatient social worker in the adult hospital. In this role, Brian provided care for CF patients at the med-surg, mod-care and ICU levels of acuity. In 2018, he joined with colleagues Sophia Tsaras-Schumacher and Patty Teubert-Worpell to begin co-facilitating DBT-informed skills-training workshops for hospital staff to promote trauma-informed de-escalation strategies during hospitalizations. When the pandemic began, Brian volunteered to be the lead social worker on the Regional Infection Containment Unit (RICU) at Michigan Medicine, and held that leadership role throughout the "first wave". As a result of his role on the RICU, Brian was named Social Worker of the Year at the University of Michigan. Due to his concerns about burnout rates in healthcare workers after Covid, Brian moved to Chicago in 2021 to take the role at RUMC's innovative Center for Clinical Wellness, where he now provides longitudinal behavioral support to healthcare workers throughout the West Side of the Windy City.
