Bethanne Wenger, RCP, BA is a respiratory practitioner at Baylor Clinic Adult CF Center in Houston, Texas in a part time position, Monday through Thursday.
She has attended BBC in Springfield, Mo in 1976 and taught 5 th grade level while pursuing her BA and respiratory certification.
While in Springfield, Bethanne answered an ad for respiratory therapy training at Cox Hospital and has pursued working in healthcare since 1978.
She has been employed for home care agencies in Houston when she first moved to Texas. Bethanne has worked in Respiratory Therapy at
Houston Methodist Hospital since 1983 until 2008 in ICU, ER , OR, and floor care in a full time position under the skillful guidance of Dr. Marcia Katz, director.
The experience of working with iron lungs, chest cuirass, Bipap, trach, adult transport and ventilator care is utilized daily to be creative when considering patient needs and quality of life. Having an in -patient and out- patient job brings out the best of both worlds and provides skills to meet the challenges.
She continues to work at HMH in Covid care, post op and ambulatory floors through the present, in a part time capacity. Since Hurricane Ike hit Texas in the fall of 2008, Bethanne has worked primarily for Baylor Clinic, as a respiratory technician
covering PFT on call, teaching CF patient care, ordering equipment , and now, monitoring the ZephyRX Home Spiro Portal.
Besides providing one on one patient and family education, Bethanne enjoys CF fund raising and learning about new medicines and therapies to bring to her team . Her emphasis is on individualized patient education and airway clearance therapy teaching for CF and Bronchiectasis Clinic under the direction of Dr. Tara Barto, Jessica Farrell, NP, and Dr. Sunjay Devarajan.
Active in the CFF RT Mentorship program since 2010 and participating in NACFC seminars the past few years, Bethanne continues to learn about new modalities, takes advantage of opportunities and encourages questions as working to expand the team of CF health care educators.
