David Proud BSc, MSc, RD currently leads the dietetic service within the All Wales, Adult CF Centre (AWACFC) based in the University Hospital, Llandough, in Wales, UK caring for a population of approximately 340 patients. After serving 12 years in the military and with a background of competitive sport David changed career direction qualifying as a Registered Dietitian in 2003. Initially gaining dietetic experience across a wide range of clinical settings David finally achieved a career goal of joining the CF clinical community in 2011. David formed part of the working group developing the initial British Thoracic Society ‘Guidelines on Pulmonary Rehabilitation in adults’, subsequently published in Thorax in 2013. In 2018 David completed an MSc in Advanced Practice, following this up in 2021, by qualifying as a non-medical prescriber. In 2019-2020 David sat on the Respiratory Alliance Wales stakeholder group focusing on improving the respiratory care plan across Wales and currently sits on the All Wales, CF Club committee, focusing on providing educational experiences for CF healthcare workers. David is an active member of the British Dietetic Association CF Specialist Dietitians Group and provides support and guidance to dietetic colleagues as a research, audit and service improvement ’Champion’ within the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. David has a keen interest in understanding the importance of assessing body composition and has a decade of experience exploring the potential capabilities and limitations of bioelectrical impedance technology in CF. David has had the good fortune and opportunity to present the AWACFC data at several European CF Conferences amongst other educational settings. Additionally, in 2017 David lead on organising the nutritional component of the UK National CF Conference focusing on the topic of “Assessment of body composition in CF”. In his spare time David enjoys endurance running with a particular interest on ultra-distance events.
