Children's Hospital Los Angeles
Carmen Reyes is the Cystic Fibrosis Nurse Care Manager and Research Nurse for the CF Center at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. She earned her BSN from Azusa Pacific University School of Nursing in 2001. Four years later she graduated from the Masters in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner Program with Sigma Theta Tau honors from the same university. After providing bedside nursing care for CF patients for over 6-years, she joined the Cystic Fibrosis Center at Children's Hospital Los Angeles in 2007. Her role at the CF Center includes managing the care of approximately 300 CF and CRMS patients; leading, developing and participating in QI initiatives to improve care, and managing CF related research protocols as the primary CF research nurse. Her interest in CF microbiology and the airway have led to collaborations as co-investigator for studies analyzing Phenazines and Iron in CF sputum and how they might enhance the survival of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. She has presented interesting Newborn Screening cases at the bi-annual California NBS Western Consortium for the last 2 consecutive years. This year she was selected to the California Thoracic Societys Pediatric Committee. In the CF community she has been committed to fundraising for CF research with the CFF LA Chapter serving as team leader for the CHLA CF Center in the Great Strides Walk, Cycle for Life, and Climb for Life events. This year, she served on the committee as Chair of Entertainment for the Great Strides Walk- Santa Monica. She has also volunteered her time over the last 4-years to the Mauli Ola Foundation serving as LA county clinical advisor and patient coordinator for the CF Surf Experience Days that promote surfing, family beach days, and exercise in CF.
