Scott M. Blackman, M.D., Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He obtained his Ph.D. in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics in 1998 and M.D. in 2000 from Vanderbilt University. He completed residency in Pediatrics in 2004 and fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology in 2007 at Johns Hopkins. He treats children with all types of endocrine disorders, including CF-related diabetes, for whom he started and continues to direct the pediatric CFRD clinic at Johns Hopkins. His research interests include localization and characterization of genetic modifiers for cystic fibrosis, including those for CF-related diabetes and other aspects of endocrine-related disordersm metabolism, and nutrition in CF. Pertinent findings have included genetic overlap between genetic modifiers of type 2 diabetes and genetic modifiers of CFRD (though they continue to be two distinct diseases with distinct treatments).
