Jodie A. Barkin, M.D. is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Miami, Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida, USA. Dr. Barkin received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Miami, followed by his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Miami. Dr. Barkin went on to complete his postgraduate training with residency in internal medicine followed by fellowship in gastroenterology at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. He subsequently completed an Advanced Endoscopy and Pancreatology fellowship at the University of Miami and subsequent joined faculty in the Division of Gastroenterology. Combining his political science background with his love of gastroenterology, he previously served on the American College of Gastroenterology National Affairs Committee, and currently serves on the Educational Affairs Committee, Annual Meeting Planning Subcommittee, and Self-Assessment Test Subcommittee. He serves as the Course Director of the Florida Gastroenterological Society Annual Meeting Hands-On Endoscopy Course for the last 4 years. Dr. Barkin is a Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, a member of the Bockus International Society of Gastroenterology, and a member and former Chief of Iron Arrow Honor Society, which is the highest honor attained at the University of Miami. He currently serves as the Associate Medical Director of the National Pancreas Foundation Center of Excellence at the University of Miami. He is the former Associate Director of the University of Miami Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center and a prior DIGEST grant awardee. He is the author of over 140 publications, abstracts, and book chapters, and serves as an Associate Editor for Pancreas and as a reviewer for multiple gastroenterology journals. His clinical and research interests include benign, pre-malignant, and malignant diseases of the pancreas, small bowel diseases and therapeutic endoscopy.
