Attending Physician
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
I am an attending physician in the Division of Endocrinology & Diabetes at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania. I have long-standing clinical and research interests in endocrine co-morbidities arising in youth with chronic health conditions. This work includes collaborations to study the underpinnings of cardiometabolic risk in 1) adolescents with Down syndrome and more recently 2) adolescents of South Asian ancestry. For the past 15+ years, I have led a clinic specifically for the care of youth and young adults with endocrine co-morbidities including diabetes in the setting of cystic fibrosis (CF). My collaboraive research in CF aims to understand the mechanisms underlying insulin secretion defects. These studies examine the evolution of glucose intolerance and islet defects in CF and are testing the impact of GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy upon early phase insulin secretion. I am Co-PI (with Dr. Michael Stalvey) for the CF Foundation Promise Endocrine sub-study which aims to examine the impact of CFTR modulator therapy upon glucose tolerance as well as bone and body composition outcomes. I serve as a program mentor for the CF Foundation Envision program which aims to train pediatric and adult endcrinologists (and reproductive specialists) in the care of peoplew with CF.
