J. Alexander Torres, MD is a PGY-3 Internal Medicine resident phyisician at the University Washington in Seattle, WA. He is an aspiring gastroenterologist and has research interests in colon cancer prevention and endoscopic device and technique development.
Hailing from the small island of Puerto Rico, Alex holds a deep sense of committment to his community and uses this connection to movtivate his research endeavors. As an FAA licensed pilot, he enjoys exploring the cross over between aviation and medicine, especially as it pertains to quality improvement and innovation.
Alex was first introduced to the cross over between Gastroenterology and Cystic Fibrosis (CF) by his mentor and CF Foundation DIGEST grant recipient Mark D. Derleth, MD. Together, they are interested in elucidating the epidemiology and risk factors associated with colon cancer development in people with CF to better inform future work in colon cancer biology and screening tools in people with CF.
