Michael W. Konstan, MD is the Vice Dean for Translational Research and the Gertrude Lee Chandler Tucker Professor of Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine, and the Austin Ricci Chair in Pediatric Pulmonary Care and Research at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland Ohio. Dr. Konstan received his B.A. and M.D. degrees from CWRU, completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, and fellowship training in pediatric pulmonology at CWRU and Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. Shortly after joining the faculty at CWRU, Dr. Konstan became the first recipient of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Harry Shwachman Clinical Investigator Award. He is also a recipient of the Richard C. Talamo Distinguished Clinical Achievement Award from the CF Foundation. His career has focused on the development of new therapies for the lung disease of CF, with a special interest in anti-inflammatory therapies and clinical trial design. His research has been supported by grants from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and the Food and Drug Administration. He has led numerous national and international clinical trials of therapeutics for cystic fibrosis, and is regarded as an international expert in CF. He currently serves on the CF Foundation’s Clinical Research Executive Committee.
