Jonathan Zuckerman, M.D. Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, Tufts University. Director, Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program, Maine Medical Center.
During my fellowship training and time on faculty at the University of Pennsylvania, my research focused on epithelial sodium channel and cystic fibrosis (CF) transmembrane conductance regulator interactions with cytoskeletal elements. This research also explored coordinate regulation of transepithelial ion transport. Concurrent clinical research involved a dose escalation study of gene therapy for cystic fibrosis utilizing a third generation adenoviral vector. Since coming to Maine Medical Center, I have focused my clinical research primarily on infection control in CF and projects related to development of new therapeutic agents for CF lung disease. I am also a site investigator within the CFF Therapeutic Development Network (TDN). I have also been Principal Investigator on three multi-center clinical trials through the CF Foundation (CFF). Findings from the infection control studies have informed the CF infection control consensus guidelines. I served for 10 years on the Clinical Research Review Committee of the CFF and more recently on the TDN Protocol Review
and Steering Committees. I am currently a member of the TDN Data Safety Monitoring Board. I have held a position on the Steering Committee of the Northern New England CF Consortium (NNECFC) for more than 20 years, leading a number of regional quality improvement projects and research initiatives.
