Carla Colombo is Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Milan and Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Reference Center of Lombardia Region, Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, in Milano. She is past President of the Italian Cystic Fibrsosis Society and has served as Member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Registry for Cystic Fibrosis as well as of the European Cystic Fibrosis Registry Steering Committee (2012 –2014). Since 2012 the Milan CF center became part of the European Clinical Trial Network and was involved in several clinical trials, including those assessing the effects of CFTR modulators. Her most significant contribution to science relates to Cystic Fibrosis. Her group was among the first to describe the natural history and treatment of liver disease associated with CF. Other research interests include the natural history of CF-related diabetes and several nutritional issues and she was also part to the panel of experts who developed the most recent European CF nutritional guidelines. From 2006 to 2009, she participated to EuroCareCF (European Coordination Action for Research in Cystic Fibrosis), within the VI Framework Programme and appointed as Leader of Workpackage 1: Optimising Patient Care and Team Work. In the period from 2015 to 2018, she was involved in the Horizon 2020 project MyCyFAPP with the aim of developing a telematic tool to support self-management of nutritional issues. More recently she devoted clinical research efforts to the Sars-CoV2 pandemic within the Italian Cystic Fibrosis Society and also joining the Global Registry Harmonization Group for Covid-19.
