I am Yasemin Gokdemir, professor of pediatric pulmonology from Marmara University, Istanbul, Turkey.
We currently follow up more than four hundred patients in Marmara University Selim Çöremen Cystic Fibrosis Centre and 22 per cent of them are adults. We have patients not only from Istanbul but also from other cities and even from abroad. In our centre, we serve our patients with 2 nurses, a dietitian, a large physiotherapy team, and a team of doctors.
A collaboration between the University of Michigan CFC and Marmara University CFC was initiated in 2018 with the support of CFF and the Middle East CF Association (MECFA). As part of the collaboration, BMI and FEV1 quality improvement projects were launched in 2019 to improve the nutritional status and pulmonary function of children with CF. In 2021, our team was the first centre invited to participate Virtual Improvement Program outside of America by CFF. Our goal is to transfer the training and the knowledge and experience we have learned to other centres in our country and region. And the Middle East Cystic Fibrosis Association carries out very valuable activities. Marmara University Selim Çöremen Cystic Fibrosis Center will be a training centre, especially for Sudan, Ethiopia, Egypt, Jordan and Azerbaijan, and doctors and nurses will serve for CF patients when they return with the training they receive in our centre.
