Dr. Claudio Sorio is currently Associate Professor of General Pathology at the deaertment of Medicine of the University of Verona, Verona, Italy. He obtained the National Academic Qualification as Full Professor for sectors 06A2 (General pathology and clinical pathology) and 06N1 (Sciences of health professions and of applied medical technologies). He is the founder and serves as coordinator of the Departmental Laboratory of Translational Research In Cystic Fibrosis of the Department of Medicine of the University of Verona. Study of Biomarkers for Cancer and Cystic Fibrosis are the main field of interests, with a specific focus on the role of Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase Gamma (PTPRG) in health and disease that his group discovered as new dendritic cell biomarker and new tumor suppressor gene in chronic myeloid leukemia. In the field of cystic fibrosis, since 2009 he promoted the study of the role of leukocytes, especially monocytes, in the disease and as a tool to better understand its pathogenesis and their application as disease biomarker, discovering the role of CFTR in cell adhesion (leading to the classification of CF as a new type of laukocyte adhesion deficency, named LAD IV). He has been leading and actively participating to multiple research projects in leukemia and Cystic Fibrosis. He authored 99 original publications in international journals, contributed to several book chapters and congress communications and is the single major contributor in the field of PTPRG characterization . He has been serving as an editorial board member of various reputed journals. He is member of many scientific societies and has participated in relevant national and international research projects.
