Clinical Librarian - Assistant Professor of Pediatrics

Michele Mason-Coles, MLS, CHIS, joined Darnall Medical Library at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in 2015 as the Clinical Librarian dedicated to the Department of Pediatrics and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Ms. Mason-Coles is a 2011 alumni of the National Library of Medicine Associate Fellowship Program, and received her MLS from of St. John's University (New York). She draws on previous years of experience as the References Services Coordinator at the EPA HQ and Chemical libraries (District of Columbia), Patient Representative (NYU Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Cancer Center - MSKCC) and as a Cancer Information Specialist (MSKCC, New York, NY). Ms. Mason-Coles was named Federal Librarian of the Year 2019, by the Library of Congress FEDLINK (FY 2018).
As a Clinical Librarian at WRNMMC, Ms. Mason-Coles participates in clinically relevant forums such as clincial rounding, journal club, morning report, department specific lectures, and supports the practice of Evidence Based Medicine (EBM). She also provides instruction on various topics including EBM, searching the medical literature, and citation management, to residents, fellows, nurses and all of WRNMMC. Ms. Mason-Coles has a special interest in patient health education, and health equity.
