Derek Johnson, MLIS, Health Professionals Outreach Specialist, National Network of Libraries of Medicine Greater Midwest Region
As an outreach specialist with the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM), Derek conducts training and outreach to health professionals and librarians on a variety of topics focusing on health information access. Derek works closely with the Midwestern Public Health Training Center to develop innovative and interactive asynchronous online trainings covering topics including population health, Healthy People 2020, and serving diverse communities. He has previously facilitated web-based trainings on multilingual and multicultural health information and was invited to present on evidence-based public health at the Minnesota Public Health Association annual conference. Prior to his role with NNLM, Derek worked as a consultant conducting competitive intelligence research within the health and wellness industry and as a public health and substance abuse prevention librarian with the Minnesota Institute of Public Health. Derek holds a bachelor’s in economics from St. John’s University (MN) and is a Beta Phi Mu graduate of St. Catherine University’s Master in Library and Information Science program.
