Elizabeth Laera, AHIP, is the senior medical librarian for Brookwood Baptist Health in Birmingham, AL, where she oversees two libraries and one full-time librarian, serving six hospitals and over 100 clinics. She is currently the past chair of the Medical Library Association’s Hospital Library Caucus, was the inaugural chair of MLA’s Education Steering Committee, and is a distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals. She is a three-time winner of MLA’s Presidential Award, has served as president of the Alabama Health Libraries Association and on a variety of committees, task forces, and juries at the national, chapter, and state level. Elizabeth has published papers on barriers to information access, clinical librarianship and the demographics of solo health science librarians, and serves as a technology column editor for The Journal of Hospital Librarianship. She received both her MLIS and BA in history from the University of Alabama.
