Amy Gische Lyons, MLS, MBA, AHIP, FMLA, FUNYOC, is an associate librarian on the University at Buffalo (UB), University Libraries Health Sciences Services Team as liaison to the School of Nursing where she provides research consultation, collaboration and instruction to faculty, students, and staff. She is actively engaged in the University’s initiative to incorporate interprofessional education into the curriculum of UB students in healthcare. Lyons served as Interim Director of UB Health Sciences Library responsible for daily operations including administrative oversight, budget, facilities management, and personnel services. Concurrently, Lyons also served as head of the Reference and Education (RES) Services team. She supervised, coordinated, and mentored library faculty liaisons that assist in research and developing information literacy skills for faculty and students in the five health sciences schools. Recipient of a SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grant has led to a focus on interprofessional education for students in the health sciences professions. Lyons holds distinguished member status in the Medical Library Association’s Association of Health Information Professionals, served on numerous national, regional and local committees, including the editorial board of the Journal of the Medical Library Association; she has also developed and taught continuing education courses addressing cultural diversity. She is especially proud of the work she did to advance the MLA Rising Stars initiative. Lyons holds Fellow status in the Medical Library Association and the Upstate New York and Ontario Chapter( UNYOC) of the Medical Library Association. She has held multiple positions and has served extensively on the UNYOC Executive Board. Recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Librarianship, Lyons was the first health sciences librarian to attend the ACRL Harvard Leadership Institute of Academic Librarians, leading the way for other health sciences librarians to follow.
