Medical Librarian, Chicago Metro Region for AMITA Health
AMITA Saint Joseph Hospital
Chicago, Illinois
Eleanor Shanklin Truex BSN, RN, MLIS. Former CCRN. Currently Chicago Metro Region Medical Librarian for AMITA Health.
Eleanor started her professional career as an ICU RN working night shift. After 29 years, she decided to shift her focus from direct care to support of her fellow health care workers via information services. 13 years later, she's still at it, but has expanded into writing JMLA book reviews, along with a few guest columns for several librarian-world publications. This is her first foray into actual research. Via various methods, she recruited 10 amazing women from across the USA to tackle the phenomenon known as The 5 Year Rule present in nursing research. She is a staunch supporter of life-long learning, which means she is also an advocate for change where and when appropriate. Whilst nearing retirement, her main goal is to start interdisciplinary conversations, that is, eliminating siloes in healthcare to improve patient care, hospital cultures, and professional congruence. To that end (and in general) she believes in the power of chocolate chip cookies.
