Terrie R. Wheeler is the Director of the Samuel J. Wood Library and C.V. Starr Biomedical Information Center, serving Cornell University’s Medical and Graduate Biomedical Sciences schools. Terrie was recruited to Weill Cornell to lead a library transformation to a facility supporting next generation science, care and education at Weill Cornell Medicine. Today many new and impactful library services exist at the Samuel J. Wood Library, including a bioinformatics service, a secure online environment to analyze patient data sets known as the data core, an accompanying data catalog, a grant editing service, a scientific software hub, and a bibliometrics service responsible for developing automated open-source tools such as VIVO Dashboard, a research impact assessment tool, and ReCiter, an open-source author disambiguation tool. Terrie has quadrupled the clinical medical librarian program through a significant endowment to reach more providers, patients and families. She has tripled the systematic reviews service, which facilitates the translation of science into clinical care. Terrie receives annual grant funding for a data informationist serving the Clinical and Translational Science Center. Terrie leads negotiation efforts for major publishers for Weill Cornell, actively participates as a member of Cornell University Library's negotiation team with major publishers, and represented Cornell University on the North East Research Libraries (NERL) 2021 Elsevier negoiation team.
Terrie has a passion for developing high performance teams that lead change, and as a result she has turned three libraries around in her career. She now focuses on mentoring, strategic planning and leadership development, so she can pass her philosophy and passion on to the next generation of executive and library leaders. Terrie has published on leading change and developing new library services and is the chair of the AAHSL Future Leaders Committee.
