Director of Library Services
New England College of Optometry
Heather Edmonds, MLIS, is the Director of Library Services at the New England College of Optometry (NECO), where she leads a team that meets the varied information needs of the didactic faculty, researchers, clinicians, staff, and students who make up the NECO community.
Heather believes wholeheartedly in the value of evidence-based information as a foundation for decision-making – not only within the health professions, but in all areas of life. It is her personal and professional goal to ensure that everyone she meets has access to current, reliable, and trustworthy information, regardless of topic.
Heather has been a librarian at NECO since 2007. During her time at the college, she received two Federal grants to establish and digitize the college’s archives, developed the library’s current website, created an information literacy program rooted in evidence-based practice, and modernized the library to prioritize the needs of remote users (with 98% of the collection now available digitally).
Heather is the current co-chair of the Association of Vision Science Librarians and president of the Fenway Library Organization consortium. She recently co-authored a chapter in Integrating Digital Literacy in the Disciplines (Hays and Kammer, eds., 2021). Heather holds a master’s degree in library and information science from Simmons University.
