Medical Librarian
Lewis P Gundry Health Sciences Library

Lucinda Bennett holds a M.A in Critical Studies and a B.A. in Visual Arts with a concentration in museum studies/art history and serves as the medical librarian at Ascension Saint Agnes in Baltimore, Maryland. She began working in the hospital library as an assistant in 2018, and found the lessons learned in museum studies had an overlap with the library world. In between working at the hospital and tutoring at a community college, she found herself instructing students on the ins and outs of research via skills learned on the job at the library.
In working with physician-residents, she realized the desire to create a project that melds art & medicine together in a fun and educational way. What has happened were conversations beyond library requests, where residents talk about their personal experiences or backgrounds in the humanities. From there the project has grown, with the library being the starting point of various new initiatives.
This is her first MLA conference. She anticipates applying for library school in the near future.
