Associate Library Professor
Dental School Library
Detroit, Michigan
Jill A. Turner, MLIS, BSN is an associate librarian in the School of Dentistry Library at the University of Detroit Mercy. Jill acts as liaison to the College of Health Professions in addition to her responsibilities in the Dental School. She is a former critical care nurse and served in the US Army Nurse Corp at Silas B Hays Army Hospital on Ft. Ord in Monterey, CA (not a bad place to spend 4 years). Her life changed in a serendipitous turn of events when her husband was seated next to the Dean of Libraries from Penn State University on a business flight. Jill began her library career as a hospital librarian, after receiving her Master of Library and Information Science from Wayne State University, before moving over to academia. She is active in both the local and state health sciences professional organizations, serving on the boards of both organizations at various times. She was awarded the Michigan Health Sciences Libraries Association Librarian of the Year award in 2009 and again in 2021. Always in search of a new challenge, she will formally graduate in May 2022 with her Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from the University of Detroit Mercy, where she received the Marcia A. Davis Award for Excellence in Liberal Studies. Jill loves just about everything associated with her second career, especially working with the students. Finally, in an effort to do her part in upholding the stereotype of a librarian, she loves to read, and she has a cat - who is embarrassingly named Cat’N America.
