Bethany McGowan, MLIS, MS, AHIP is an Associate Professor in the Libraries and School of Information Studies at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She works with clinical programs in Nursing, Nutrition, and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, providing research and instruction services in the areas of information literacy, data services, scholarly communication, and collaborative research. Professor McGowan’s research centers around behavior change communication, health information-seeking behavior, health information literacy, health equity, and more tangibly, the design and development of health information experiences via health informatics and social informatics tools and technologies.
McGowan studied Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina (MLIS) and Interaction Design and Information Architecture at the University of Baltimore (MS). She joined Purdue in 2015 after four years as Allied Health Sciences Librarian at Howard University and a fellowship at the Library of Congress Congressional Research Service.
