Susan Skledar received her BS in Pharmacy and Master of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt). She is Director of Experiential Learning and Continuing Professional Development at Pitt Pharmacy, and Professor in the Department of Pharmacy & Therapeutics. She oversees development and evaluation of student introductory/advanced pharmacy practice experiences and practitioner continuing education programs. She has been a clinical faculty member since 1992.
Susan’s experiences are based in hospital/health-system practice. From 2012-2016, she was a Clinical Specialist in formulary management/drug use policy at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), an integrated delivery system of 20 academic, community and specialty hospitals. Prior to that, she was Director of the UPMC Drug Use and Disease State Management Program, leading work in medication use policy/practice guideline development, shortage plans, and smart technology. This work yielded over 400 guidelines, 55 peer-reviewed publications, and 20 book chapters.
Susan's work has been recognized by ASHP, APhA, ISMP, NAHQ, PSHP, and the Hospital and Health-System Association of Pennsylvania. Her teams received the ASHP Best Practices Award in Health-System Pharmacy in 2000 and 2012. She received the APhA Pinnacle Award for Healthcare Quality Improvement, is a Fellow of ASHP, and received the 2013 ASHP Distinguished Service Award. She is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and leads the PA Schools of Pharmacy Experiential Learning Leaders Coalition.
