Dr. Kimberly Barefield received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Kentucky and her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. Following graduation, Dr. Barefield completed a PGY1 pharmacy residency at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. She is an associate professor with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) School of Pharmacy, a clinical pharmacist for the Northeast Georgia Physician Group (NGPG) internal medicine clinic and adjunct faculty to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Internal Medicine Graduate Medical Education program. She provides clinical expertise to the NGPG clinic by delivering medication management services for patients seen in the clinic. Her faculty responsibilities within the school of pharmacy include teaching in the pharmacotherapy and managed care courses. She also coordinates the first year interprofessional course and precepts IPPE and APPE students at her clinical site. She has published 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters in multiple content areas. She served on the Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists (GSHP) Board of Directors from 2008-2017 and 2019-2021, and as co-chair of the GSHP communication committee from 2019-2021.
