Katie Dane graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy in 2015. Following graduation, Katie completed a combined post-graduate year 1 and 2 Pharmacotherapy Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. After completion of residency, Katie began her career as a Clinical Pharmacist in Benign Hematology and Cardiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. In this role, Katie has led efforts to develop a multidisciplinary Hemostatic and Antithrombotic Stewardship Program at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The Stewardship Program has developed health-system guidelines to optimize safe and cost-effective use of anticoagulants, blood factor products, and anticoagulation reversal agents. Katie also provides clinical pharmacy services for the benign hematology inpatient and consult service and for the cardiac intensive care unit.
Katie has served as preceptor for pharmacy residents and students, and has been an active member of the American Society of Hematology, serving both on the guideline panel for recommendations for the use of thromboprophylaxis for patients with COVID-19, and leads a clinical decision support workgroup. Katie's research interests include heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and hemostatic and anticoagulation stewardship.
