Joel W Daniel, PharmD, MS, CPPS serves as System Medication Safety Pharmacist for CoxHealth in southwest Missouri. Joel’s primary work focuses on protecting patients and staff from the complexity of healthcare by streamlining continuous quality improvement within medication management processes. Prior to his current position, he trained as a resident as PGY-1 followed by a PYG-2 in Medication-Use Safety Pharmacy Resident and at HCA with the Clinical Services Group in Nashville, TN. Current focus centers on standardizing system-wide order sets, leading and maintaining significant ADE reduction in opioid and insulin harms for inpatients, and addressing alert fatigue.
At a national level, Joel is an active member of American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), serving on the Medication Safety section advisory group (SAG). During his time with the SAG she has been involved with national initiatives and groups including groups focused on Medication Safety Dashboard creation, insulin safety, vaccine safety, and has collaborated on multiple podcasts for ASHP Official. At the regional and state level, he helped found and leads the Medication Safety Collaborative of Kansas and Missouri (MSCKM). He is also an active member of the Missouri Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP). During both his residency and current position, Joel has demonstrated significant improvement in ADE and other safety metrics with appropriate dashboards of clinical or quality-related focus.
