Dr. Valerie San Luis, PharmD, BCPS is an Emergency Medicine clinical pharmacist specialist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California. Dr. San Luis completed her PGY-1 residency at the University of Michigan Health System and PGY-2 in Emergency Medicine at Huntington Memorial Hospital. She also serves as a primary preceptor for both pharmacy students and residents. Skilled at optimizing systems and removing barriers to support ideal care delivery, Dr. San Luis' contributions have enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of her physician and nursing colleagues. She led an initiative to expand the Emergency Medicine Pharmacists' scope of practice to allow for pharmacist-driven redosing of antibiotics. The initiative reduced delays in second doses of antibiotics in acutely ill patients and resulted in a significant decrease in mortality. Her peer-reviewed research was published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine. Dr. San Luis' clinical and research interests include stroke, trauma resusciation, and optimizing patient care through pharmacist led initiatives.
