Medical Director, Age Friendly Emergency Department

Dr. Nida F. Degesys is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at UCSF and serves as the medical director for the UCSF Age Friendly Emergency Department, the only Level 1 Geriatric ED (GED) in the Bay Area, as well as the Assistant Medical Director for the UCSF ED. Dr. Degesys completed an administrative fellowship at Stanford University and emergency medicine residency at UCSF/ZSFG. Her area of academic research in addition to GED care focuses on N95 mask reuse and extended use, resulting in a JAMA 2020 publication. Dr. Degesys has won several awards including the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association (EMRA) National Fellow of the Year in 2019, the faculty bedside teaching award in 2019, and National Resident Educator Award by the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) in 2018. Prior to medicine Dr. Degesys served in the United States Peace Corps in Panama. After medical school Dr. Degesys served as the national President of the American Medical Student Association, representing over 38,000 student members on various issues. She continued her advocacy and leadership by serving as the EM resident representative to the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Board of Directors and National Vice Speaker/Speaker of the Council for EMRA. She currently serves on the ACEP Geriatric ED Accreditation Board of Governors as well as the ACEP Academic Affairs Committee.
