Dr. Christopher L. Farrell is a professor in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department at Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy (PCSP). He started his career in the pharmaceutical industry where he worked for two different biotechnology companies over a seven year period. The companies were the Immune Response Corporation and Centocor, which is a sub-company of the Johnson and Johnson Company. At the pharmaceutical companies, he worked in the field of biological therapeutics such as monoclonal antibodies and viral vaccine-based therapies. He entered graduate school at the University of South Carolina after several years in industry and earned his PhD in the Biomedical Sciences. As a post-doctoral fellow at SC Cancer Center and Medical College of Georgia Cancer Center, he identified novel cancer genes in colorectal and breast cancers. In his current position as a professor at PCSP, he has developed several core courses in the pharmacy program including Medical Immunology, Biotechnologies Laboratory, and Pharmacogenomics. He has been very involved with educating nurses and pharmacists through continuing education seminars on targeted therapies where he has published several peer-reviewed articles on pharmacogenomics. His research has focused on novel cancer genes in invasive breast tumors through next-generation genetic sequencing and cancer cell line studies. He has also involved with molecular testing of infectious diseases such as influenza and COVID.
