AANA Treasurer, United States
Jeff is born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and still backs his hometown Cleveland Browns Football team. Playing soccer as a young boy, Jeff dreamed of becoming a world cup soccer player. He chased his dreams to Ohio Wesleyan University where he proudly sat on the bench for 3 years and was part of a team that went on to lose in the national championship game. Jeffs teammates often harassed him about being in nursing school as a young man and often told him to “pick up his skirt” when he was playing. Jeff eventually gave up the game of soccer in his mid thirties after multiple knee surgeries including two ACL replacements and a total hip replacement at the age of 45. Jeff now calls himself a golfer. He pays a lot of money and wears fancy clothes, hitting a little white ball all over 150 acres of perfectly manicured property. Jeff enjoys golfing with his wife Barb, where she routinely schools his butt and outdrives him by 40 yards.
Jeff has been a CRNA for 23 years. He has worked in ALL types of practice environments. After joining an ALL CRNA owned practice; Jeff became interested in the business side of anesthesia. He went on to get his MBA in 2011. In that same year, Jeff and three other CRNAs started their own practice and provided anesthesia services at Findlay Surgery Center in Findlay, Ohio. After purchasing their first Ultrasound Machine in 2011, Jeff and Scott Urigel struggled and taught themselves how to do blocks they have done previously without ultrasound. They went on to start another business, teaching CRNAs and physicians how to perform ultrasound guided nerve blocks. They eventually invented an app for iPhone and Android platforms called Block Buddy; years later Block Buddy would morph into Block Buddy Pro. Jeff and Scott are currently working as private contractors at two different ambulatory surgery centers in Findlay, Ohio.
Jeff was not involved involved in CRNA advocacy until his coworker invited him to be on a committee for the Ohio State Association of Nurse Anesthetists. Jeff served on that committee and went on to serve as a board member and eventually the state President in 2015. Jeff continues to be a CRNA advocate; often going to CRNA programs and speaking on the importance of advocacy and the business side of anesthesia. Jeff served as region 6 director for the AANA board of directors from 2020-2022 and is currently the Treasurer of the AANA. Jeff loves being a CRNA and is always willing to help fellow CRNAs with business advice, block advice or any other advice: provided that they are an AANA member. Jeff values his AANA membership.
