PhD Candidate
University of Toronto Scarborough, Canada
I am a conservation biologist, currently completing my doctoral thesis at the University of Toronto (2022). My PhD research focuses on understanding the spread and impact of the winter tick parasite, especially in northern Canada in Yukon, and I use a set of diverse methods to shed light on the new relationships in this system (fieldwork, modelling, citizen science and integration of historical data). Through my work, I aim to inform the conservation and management of winter tick hosts (particularly moose and caribou), and to help engage local stakeholders in the process of developing ongoing monitoring and mitigation strategies. I am also interested in how science can best inform conservation policy, particularly for invasive or recovering species.
