In California, there is a difference between which beaches are cleaner than others. Underfunded beaches contain endless trash along shores. However, on well-funded beaches, trash is hard to spot. As a marine science educator, I help the public understand the historical context behind the health of beaches and empower them to mitigate future degradation. Having experienced coastal habitats in their youth, I build a community for underserved groups by creating opportunities and space for them in the conservation field through my research. I am committed to devoting my career to developing strategies for the preservation of our urbanized coastal ecosystems.
