Leticia Aviles is an ecologist and evolutionary biologist at the Department of Zoology and the Biodiversity Research Centre at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Originally from Ecuador, she has a PhD from Harvard University, PD on the origin of Biological Diversification at the University of Arizona, and a fellow of the the Animal Behavior Society. She is interested in the factors responsible for the origin of higher levels of organization, in particular social groups, and how such factors shape sociality and other biotic interactions along productivity gradients. Her empirical systems include social spiders and elevation and precipitation gradients in Ecuador.
