Although there is abundant evidence on drug interactions that alter serum levels, and functional interactions that are dangerous, there is far less evidence on functional interactions that limit efficacy. This lecture’s goal is to improve the care of our patients by avoiding combinations of medications that limit efficacy due to a pharmacodynamic interaction, but also to identify similar pharmacodynamic interactions to minimize side effects.
