Dr. Gin graduated MD at UBC in 1985, and completed his internal medicine & adult cardiology training, followed by an echocardiography fellowship. Appointed by the UBC Department of Medicine and VGH Division of Cardiology in 1992, he achieved the rank of Clinical Professor in 2008. He was Director, UBC Postgraduate Cardiology Program for 10 years until 2009; under his tutelage the program grew from 2 residents to 17 and became established as one of the best cardiology training programs in Canada. From 2009 to 2012 he served as Head of the UBC Division of Cardiology for Vancouver Acute. From 2009 to 2020, he served as Head of the VGH Division of Cardiology. He has received numerous teaching awards, including the prestigious 2010 UBC Killam Teaching Prize and the 2011 Canadian Cardiovascular Society Distinguished Teaching Award. Over the past 10 years, the VGH Division of Cardiology in partnership with the VGH Foundation raised between $40-$50M, which enabled development of multiple subspecialty clinics, as well as development of a state-of-the-art EP lab and development of the Cardiodiagnostic Centre. He has published well over 100 articles. In 2013 he received the Clinical Excellence award from VGH. Dr. Gin was elected to Fellowship in the Canadian Cardiovascular Society in 2018. In 2020, he received the UBC Wallace Wilson award for ethical leadership. He has sat on the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Executive, and previously chaired the Canadian Journal of Cardiology committee. He was the chair of the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress, the largest cardiovascular meeting in Canada for 2018 and 2019 hosting almost 3000 delegates. In 2020, the VGH Cardiac Sciences Program was ranked in the top 200 Cardiovascular programs in the world, one of only 6 Canadian sites to receive this distinction.
