Dr. Longmuir is a Senior Scientist in the Healthy Active Living and Obesity Research Group at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute and a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa. Dr. Longmuir’s research interests are the promotion of physical activity to children with medical conditions and disabilities, and the use of physical activity to prevent and/or treat morbidity. She is a leading researcher in the promotion of physical activity and healthy lifestyles among children with congenital heart disease, having published American and European participation guidelines. Dr. Longmuir focuses on home-based, parent-led interventions that are accessible to all patients regardless of geographic location. She has demonstrated the benefits of this approach among children of all ages, including the long-term (5 year) benefits. Dr. Longmuir has published more than 70 papers and 6 book chapters in the peer-reviewed literature. She has delivered over 180 scholarly conference presentations, and more than 80 invited and keynote addresses.
