Shubham Soni, BSc, University of Alberta.
Shubham is currently a 5th year PhD candidate and a 1st year MD student at the University of Alberta. His research primarily focuses on how ketones can be used as a new therapeutic approach for heart failure and other cardiovascular diseases. Shubham is also leading projects investigating the therapeutic potential of ketones in perinatal iron deficiency-induced cardiorenal dysfunction, hemorrhagic stroke, and sepsis, amongst others in the works. Beyond this, Shubham is also interested in investigating the use of SGLT2 inhibitors to treat heart failure, as well as other inflammation-mediated diseases, and has worked on projects investigating these topics. He also has a background in diabetes research and remains interested in the overlap between diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Though Shubham has focused on the molecular aspects of heart failure pathogenesis and treatment, as a new medical student, he aims to better understand the clinical aspects and considerations in the hopes of improving translational research and treatments for cardiovascular disease.
