Lina Elfaki is a final year medical student at the University of Toronto (UofT). She also completed her Undergraduate Degree in Physiology and Human Biology – Health and Disease and Master’s Thesis focused on Gene Therapy for Aortic Aneurysms at UofT. She is an aspiring Cardiac Surgeon with a recent research focus on Hemiarch vs. Extended Arch Repair for Type I Aortic Dissections working with Dr. Maral Ouzounian. As an immigrant Black woman, she has been promoting gender and racial equity in healthcare and STEM education. She has been researching racial and socioeconomic disparities in access to and outcomes frollowing cardiac patient care with the goal of optimizing surgical care within and beyond Canada.
