Ricardo Fontes-Carvalho (MD, PhD, FESC, FACC) is currently Director of Cardiology Department at Centro Hospitalar de Gaia/Espinho and Associate Professor at Faculty of Medicine University of Porto, Portugal.
In his everyday clinical practice he is mostly involved in cardiac imaging, especially in advanced echocardiography, and clinical cardiology. Over the years he has been involved in both basic and clinical research and in several major clinical trials. In 2015 he finished his PhD, studying subclinical diastolic dysfunction and its progression to heart failure. For this scientific research he has received 19 national and international awards and has authored > 120 publications in several peer-review journals. His current research interests include cardiovascular prevention, echocardiography, HF and diastolic dysfunction.
At the European Society Cardiology (ESC), he was the founder of the ESC Cardiologists of Tomorrow and worked as member of the Board of the ESC Education Committee. He was responsible, among other projects, for the creation of the ESC webinars in general Cardiology. He is currently member of the ESC Global Scientific Affairs Committee. At the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) he is currently member of the Board of the EACVI and member of several of its committees.
In 2018, he concluded a MsC in Health Economics and Management at the London School of Economics (LSE).
During the last years he has been an active contributor in several national and international continuing medical education programs. He has been abstract grader, presenter and session chair in a variety of international cardiovascular meetings such as ESC congress, American College Cardiology (ACC), EuroEcho Imaging, Heart Failure, ESC Preventive Cardiology and several national Cardiology congresses (Portugal, France, Italy, Russia, Sri Lanka, Angola, Morocco, Philippines and many others).
He is currently Associate Editor of JACC Case Reports and member of the Editorial Board of several scientific journals.
